In North America people are exposed to a very large number of advertisements and are being persuaded without even being aware of it. However, the most targeted demographic to marketers are children. According to the statistics, more than 700 billion dollars annual spending is influenced by children alone. The main reasons for this fact are that kids already have their own purchasing power-they can easily influence their parents’ buying decisions and also, adolescents are the adult consumers of the future. With both parents working, families have more disposable income. The minors spend on average more than seven hours per day on activities related to media. Unfortunately, if no measures are considered, this number is expected to increase in the years to come. The publicities targeting the so called M2 generation have various negative impacts on their psychology. For instance, the sellers are trying to get children to like their products and brands now even though they are too young to use or need the merchandise being offered. Furthermore, ads create attitude and behavioural issues by showing kids that they will be rewarded for following the manners they depict. When seeing groceries commercials, teens are developing poor eating habits and illnesses due to the harmful lifestyle messages advertisements often portray.Youth lack skills in differentiating the good and the bad in what they see and do; they do not have the same critical skills as the adults. Therefore, it is really important to be able to mediate the effect of advertisements that media has on children.

This site will look into how children are persuaded, the pestering power they have, how media targets kids and what methods they use to target children. In addition, the website illustrates some effective ways of protecting the young generation from advertising and the different programs in place for this.
